Paving Works
WHAT IS PAVING WORK?
Paving is done to create paths, squares or terraces. This work can be carried out both outdoors and indoors and usually involves placing foundations, fixing paving stones and filling the joints between stones.
HOW EXPENSIVE IS PAVING WORK?
The cost of paving works can vary greatly and depends on a number of factors. Some of these factors are:
Size of the area to be paved: The larger the area, the higher the cost will be.
Type of paving: Different types of pavers have different prices. Natural stone paving stones, for example, are generally more expensive than concrete paving stones.
Site preparation: If the site has to be prepared before paving, such as clearing vegetation or excavating the soil, the cost will be higher.
Difficulty of the work: If the work is particularly difficult, such as if there are many corners or bends, the cost will be higher.

WHAT TYPES OF PAVERS ARE AVAILABLE?
There are different types of pavers that can be used for different applications. Some examples are:
Concrete pavers: These are the most commonly used paving stones and are available in many different shapes, sizes and colors. They are durable, cheap and easy to lay.
Natural stone pavers: These stones are made from natural materials such as granite, sandstone or slate and give a great look to any area. However, they are generally more expensive and more difficult to place than concrete paving.
Clinker pavers: These bricks are made of fired clay and are particularly robust and durable. They are available in many colors and are suitable for use in high traffic areas.
Slate pavers: These stones are made from slate and are particularly suitable for paths or terraces in natural environments.
Wooden paving stones: These stones are made of wood and are very suitable for walkways or patios that are not very busy and offer a natural look.
These are just a few examples of the different types of pavers available. There are many more types, each with their own advantages and limitations.
WHAT ARE THE STANDARDS GOVERNING PAVING WORKS?
In Germany, there are several DIN standards relating to paving works. Some of the most important standards are:
DIN 18040-1 “Barrier-free constructions – Part 1: General requirements” – This standard specifies the requirements for barrier-free constructions, including requirements for floor coverings and paving surfaces.
DIN EN 1338 “Concrete block paving” – This standard specifies requirements for concrete block paving, including requirements for dimensions, shapes, surface finishes and physical properties.
DIN EN 1339 “Natural stone paving” – This standard specifies requirements for natural stone paving, including requirements for dimensions, shapes, surface finish and physical properties.
DIN EN 1342 “Concrete and natural stone pavements” – This standard specifies requirements for concrete and natural stone pavements, including requirements for dimensions, shapes, surface finish and physical properties.
DIN 18195-1 “Surface works – Part 1: Design, execution and dimensioning of surface works” – This standard specifies requirements for the design, execution and dimensioning of surface works, including requirements for floor preparation, laying, jointing and cleaning.
It is important to note that these standards apply only in Germany and that other standards may apply in other countries.
